This shit is invisibilizing as fuck. My disability is never going away, and no amount of positive thinking (or exercise?) is going to change that. I AM DISABLED. SHIT IS A CHALLENGE FOR ME EVERY SINGLE DAY and that’s real. The best I can hope for is continued access to the medication that helps me manage it, but it’s never going away and pretending a supposed bad attitude is what is causing it is ableist, insulting and extremely unhelpful. If you want to support the disabled, really support us, then meet us where we are, don’t expect our status to improve, don’t expect us to be your inspiration porn and trust what we say about our experiences being disabled.

Totally agree with the above. Like, yeah, fuck you, nope. Having a good attitude means exactly jack shit about having a disability. Also, not only are there many disabilities that aren’t physical, not all physical disabilities are helped by exercise. The image indicating that someone in a wheelchair just needs a special exercise program to walk? What the fuck even?

MORE IMPORTANT COMMENTARY^^^^ This image is along the same lines as “what’s your excuse” motivation porn, all of which suggest that if we’re still disabled, we’re just not trying hard enough which is disgustingly ableist omg. Disability has nothing to do with one’s moral character and everything to do with luck of the draw and this shit that suggests otherwise is subtly victim-blaming. This sort of thing is saying that if we were just more positive, if we just tried harder, if we didn’t “let our disabilities rule our life” (as if that’s a choice), we wouldn’t be disabled, and if you don’t see why that’s messed up, just unfollow me.

The Black Rose of Turkey

Turkish Halfeti Roses are incredibly rare. They are shaped just like regular roses, but their color sets them apart. These roses are so black, you’d think someone spray-painted them. But that’s actually their natural color.

Although they appear perfectly black, they’re actually a very deep crimson color. These flowers are seasonal – they only grow during the summer in small number, and only in the tiny Turkish village of Halfeti. Thanks to the unique soil conditions of the region, and the pH levels of the groundwater (that seeps in from the river Euphrates), the roses take on a devilish hue. They bloom dark red during the spring and fade to black during the summer months.

The local Turks seem to enjoy a love-hate relationship with these rare blossoms. They consider the flowers to be symbols of mystery, hope and passion, and also death and bad news.

Seeing a black rose in full bloom is a once-in-a-lifetime sort of thing. Don’t miss it if you ever happen to be in Turkey during the summer.
